Role: CDM Consultant / Principal Designer
Location: Remote, with travel to projects across South Wales, South West and surrounding regions
Salary: £50,000 – £55,000 + benefits package

WRG is supporting an established construction health, safety and compliance consultancy in its search for an experienced CDM Consultant.
The business provides practical, client-focused support across Principal Designer services, CDM compliance, Building Regulations and wider construction safety. Its team works with clients, designers and contractors on a varied portfolio of residential, commercial, education, healthcare and industrial projects.
This is a remote position offering considerable autonomy, although occasional travel to client meetings and project sites will be required.
The Role
You will manage your own portfolio of projects, delivering CDM Principal Designer and advisory services from the early design stages through to completion.
Working closely with clients, designers, contractors and other dutyholders, you will help ensure that health and safety is properly considered throughout the design and pre-construction process.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as Principal Designer under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
- Plan, manage, monitor and coordinate health and safety during the pre-construction phase.
- Advise clients and project teams on their duties under CDM 2015.
- Prepare, review and maintain Pre-Construction Information.
- Lead design-risk reviews and identify opportunities to eliminate or reduce foreseeable risks.
- Coordinate designers and ensure appropriate cooperation between project dutyholders.
- Attend client, design-team and project meetings.
- Prepare and maintain project risk registers, design-review records and other CDM documentation.
- Compile and review Health and Safety Files.
- Monitor projects and provide clear, proportionate compliance advice.
- Build strong, trusted relationships with clients and project teams.
- Contribute to the continued development of the consultancy’s Principal Designer service
- You will be a confident and personable construction-safety professional who understands how to influence design teams and communicate technical information clearly
- You should be comfortable managing projects independently while working collaboratively with colleagues and clients.
Requirements: - Previous experience in a CDM Consultant, Principal Designer or construction health and safety role.
- Strong working knowledge of CDM 2015 and the associated dutyholder requirements.
- A relevant health and safety, construction or design qualification.
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate or an equivalent qualification is desirable.
- Good understanding of construction and the design process.
- Strong written communication and report-writing skills.
- Confident client-facing and stakeholder-management ability.
- Able to organise and manage a varied project workload remotely.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel when required.
- Membership of APS, IOSH, IIRSM or another relevant professional body would be advantageous. Knowledge of the Building Safety Act and Building Regulations Principal Designer duties would also be beneficial.
