Our client, a well-established and highly successful housebuilder, is seeking an Assistant Planner to join their Land Team based in Reading. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate planner or early-career planning professional looking to develop their expertise across both planning policy and development management within a commercial environment.

The Role
Reporting to the Planning Manager, you’ll support the land and planning teams on a variety of residential and mixed-use development projects, helping to identify opportunities, manage planning risks and secure planning permissions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing planning advice to land teams on potential development opportunities.
  • Reviewing planning policy and identifying sites with development potential.
  • Preparing and coordinating planning appraisals for land acquisitions.
  • Assisting with the formulation of planning strategies to secure planning permissions.
  • Supporting negotiations with local authorities, stakeholders and local communities.
  • Assisting with Section 106 negotiations and advising on planning obligations.
  • Supporting the preparation and submission of planning applications.
  • Managing the discharge of planning conditions.
  • Coordinating external consultants and monitoring planning budgets and expenditure.
  • Contributing towards business performance objectives and KPI delivery.

About You
We’re keen to speak with candidates who have:

  • A Planning degree (or equivalent qualification).
  • A strong interest in residential development and the planning process.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational ability.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively to deadlines.
  • Good administrative and IT skills.
  • A collaborative and proactive approach to work.
  • A commitment to diversity, inclusion and professional development.

What’s on Offer?

  • Salary up to £42,000 depending on experience.
  • Car allowance and competitive benefits package.
  • Opportunity to work on a wide range of residential and mixed-use developments.
  • Exposure to strategic land promotion, planning applications and development delivery.
  • Structured career progression within a nationally recognised developer.
  • A supportive and collaborative team environment.
  • This is an excellent opportunity for a Graduate Planner, Assistant Planner or Planner looking to take the next step in their career with a business that continues to invest in both its people and its development pipeline.
