Our client, a well-established and highly successful housebuilder, is seeking an Assistant Planner to join their Land Team based in Reading. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate planner or early-career planning professional looking to develop their expertise across both planning policy and development management within a commercial environment.
The Role
Reporting to the Planning Manager, you’ll support the land and planning teams on a variety of residential and mixed-use development projects, helping to identify opportunities, manage planning risks and secure planning permissions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing planning advice to land teams on potential development opportunities.
- Reviewing planning policy and identifying sites with development potential.
- Preparing and coordinating planning appraisals for land acquisitions.
- Assisting with the formulation of planning strategies to secure planning permissions.
- Supporting negotiations with local authorities, stakeholders and local communities.
- Assisting with Section 106 negotiations and advising on planning obligations.
- Supporting the preparation and submission of planning applications.
- Managing the discharge of planning conditions.
- Coordinating external consultants and monitoring planning budgets and expenditure.
- Contributing towards business performance objectives and KPI delivery.
About You

- A Planning degree (or equivalent qualification).
- A strong interest in residential development and the planning process.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational ability.
- The ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively to deadlines.
- Good administrative and IT skills.
- A collaborative and proactive approach to work.
