We Recruit Group has recently partnered with a leading multi-disciplinary property and construction consultancy that operates across the UK. The business has ambitious plans to continue developing its Building Regulations Principal Designer service and is now looking to appoint an experienced Architect or Architectural Technologist who is interested in taking a side step in their career and moving into a specialist compliance-led role.
You will sit within the established CDM/ Principal Designer team and support the delivery of the Building Regulations Principal Designer role across a diverse portfolio of projects. The team already has four professionals delivering this service, all from design-led backgrounds, so you will be joining a knowledgeable and supportive environment with genuine technical expertise around you.
The client base is varied and includes residential, both public and private sector, higher-risk buildings, commercial, retail, office, public sector, leisure, university and education projects.
This role has been created in response to the changes taking place across the industry following the Building Safety Act, with the business looking to further integrate its Principal Designer, Building Safety and Building Regulations compliance offering.
The Building Regulations Principal Designer will support clients in navigating the changing regulatory landscape, ensuring Building Regulations compliance is considered, coordinated and managed throughout the project lifecycle. The business already has a healthy pipeline of work and has tendered for several additional projects where the Building Regulations Principal Designer service will be required.
The Role
As Building Regulations Principal Designer, you will be responsible for:
- Providing advice to clients and project teams around the Building Safety Act, Building Regulations and associated compliance requirements.
- Liaising with Principal Designers, Principal Contractors, Architects, Designers, MEP Consultants, Fire Engineers and other key stakeholders.
- Attending client meetings, design team meetings and project workshops to provide technical input around
- Building Regulations and BSA compliance.
- Reviewing drawings, design information and technical documentation to identify compliance risks and ensure the relevant checks are being undertaken.
- Providing technical advice to clients, contractors, developers, colleagues and wider project teams.
- Developing, updating and managing compliance trackers throughout the project lifecycle.
- Supporting clients with relevant Gateway submissions where applicable.
- Ensuring the golden thread of information is maintained, accessible and updated throughout the project.
- Helping project teams ensure schemes are designed and delivered in line with current Building Regulations, legislation and best practice.
About You
The successful candidate will ideally come from an architectural, architectural technology, design management or similar design-led background. You will need strong technical knowledge, the ability to review design information and the confidence to advise clients and project teams on Building Regulations compliance.
You may already be working in a Building Regulations Principal Designer role, or you may be an Architect, Architectural Technologist or Design Manager looking to move into a specialist BRPD position.
Requirements
- Background in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Design Management or a similar discipline.
- Membership of RIBA, CIAT or a similar professional body would be beneficial.
- Strong knowledge of Building Regulations, Building Safety Act, Approved Documents, codes and relevant legislation.
- Ability to read and review drawings, designs and technical information.
- Understanding of design coordination, compliance tracking and project documentation.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with clients, consultants, contractors and internal teams.
- Strong organisational skills and a proactive approach to compliance.
