A unique opportunity has arisen for an Associate CDM/Principal Designer to join a multi-discipline practice in West London.

We are looking for an Associate CDM/Principal Designer to jointly lead the H&S division, you will operate alongside the Head of Department making strategic and recruitment decisions, being the point of contact for clients and delivering technical expertise. You will lead a small team of juniors and provide daily mentorship.

The H&S division is currently undertaking projects across several sectors including commercial, education, healthcare and residential. You will collaborate with other departments in the practice and deliver multi million pound schemes across London and the surrounding home counties. Liaising with important stakeholders and developing existing and new business are additional duties involved with the role.

Responsibilities

• Complying with the responsibilities of the principal designer under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (“CDM 2015”).
• Informing and assisting clients in discharging their duties at each stage of the process under CDM 2015.
• Visiting sites and carrying out an initial appraisal to establish existing hazards and site restrictions.
• Attendance at design team meetings, workshops, and project progress meetings.
• Setting up the design risk register and carrying out CDM design reviews / workshops with the design team to focus on the significant design, construction, and operation and maintenance risks.
• Assist designers to design out risk and maintain design risk register.
• Preparation of RIBA Stage CDM / Principal Designer reports.
• Advising and assisting clients in the appointment of designers and contractors
• Preparation and issue of the Pre Construction Information.
• Submission of the F10 Notification to the HSE and review of Construction Phase Plans prior to works starting on site.
• Carrying out site inspections during the construction phase to monitor compliance.
• Undertaking site H&S inspections and report writing.
• Assist with the writing of risk assessments and safe systems of work for clients.
• Assist with client annual memberships to recognized SSIP schemes.
• Help maintain internal compliance to health and safety requirements and embed a culture of safety.

Associate CDM/Principal Designer

• Minimum of 18 month in a similar role.
• NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent.
• NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent (desirable but not required).
• Membership to IOSH, APS, IIRSM or similar professional body.
• Excellent understanding of 2015 CDM Regulations.
• Strong technical knowledge
• Management experience
• Client facing
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Full UK driver’s licence
