An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior or Principal Planner to join a growing and ambitious planning and development consultancy in its Sheffield office.

This is not a role where you will simply be supporting senior colleagues. The successful candidate will be trusted to hit the ground running, take ownership of projects and lead relationships with their own clients.

Working across a diverse portfolio of development projects, you will have the opportunity to provide strategic planning advice and play a key role in delivering projects from initial feasibility through to planning and delivery.

The Role
As a Senior / Principal Planner, you will:

• Take ownership of your own portfolio of planning projects and clients.
• Lead projects from inception through to submission, determination and delivery.
• Provide commercially focused, pragmatic planning advice.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, local authorities and wider consultant teams.
• Manage planning applications, appeals, pre-application discussions and planning strategies.
• Work across a varied project portfolio, including strategic land, regeneration, residential, commercial, industrial, logistics and mixed-use development.
• Identify opportunities to support the continued growth of the business.
• Contribute to the wider development of the Sheffield team.
• Support and mentor more junior members of the team where appropriate.

About You
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Senior or Principal Planner who is confident operating autonomously and dealing directly with clients.

You will ideally have:

• Strong consultancy planning experience.
• A proven ability to manage your own projects and client relationships.
• Excellent knowledge of the UK planning system.
• Strong commercial awareness and sound planning judgement.
• The confidence to provide clear, practical advice to clients.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• MRTPI status, or be working towards chartership.
• The ambition to take genuine ownership of your career and develop alongside a growing consultancy.
• Most importantly, you will be someone who doesn’t need to be hand-held — you will be comfortable taking responsibility, making decisions and getting projects moving.
