WRG is delighted to be supporting a leading UK property and building compliance consultancy that works with clients to create safer, smarter and more sustainable buildings.
The business provides an extensive range of services across CDM, Building Safety, Fire Safety, Asbestos, Building Surveying, Project Management, Asset Management and Sustainability. Its specialist compliance team supports major public and private-sector clients across new-build, refurbishment, remediation and maintenance projects.
Due to continued growth, the business is looking to appoint an experienced Senior CDM Consultant / Principal Designer. This is a predominantly remote position, although the successful candidate will travel to client meetings and project sites across London, the Home Counties and South East when required.
The role offers an excellent variety of work across high-rise residential remediation, commercial developments, healthcare estates, universities, data centres and wider public-sector property portfolios. You will manage your own portfolio of projects while working alongside an established multidisciplinary team of safety, compliance and property professionals.
The successful candidate will be trusted to deliver a high-quality Principal Designer and Client CDM Advisor service, build strong client relationships and provide clear, practical advice throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities will include:
- Acting as Principal Designer in accordance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
- Providing Client CDM Advisor support and helping clients understand and discharge their statutory duties.
- Planning, managing, monitoring and coordinating Health & Safety during the pre-construction phase.
- Identifying significant and foreseeable risks associated with construction, maintenance, cleaning and the future use of buildings.
- Working with clients to obtain pre-construction information, identifying gaps and advising how these should be addressed.
- Coordinating with architects, designers, contractors and other project stakeholders.
- Leading design-risk reviews and encouraging designers to eliminate or reduce foreseeable risks.
- Reviewing Construction Phase Plans and other relevant Health & Safety documentation.
- Attending client meetings, design-team meetings and project workshops.
- Completing construction-site Health & Safety inspections and producing clear, professional reports.
- Providing practical Health & Safety advice, guidance and coaching to project teams.
- Preparing, reviewing and issuing Health & Safety Files.
- Managing several projects simultaneously and ensuring agreed deliverables are completed on time.
- Managing project fees, appointments, invoicing and project close-out.
- Identifying opportunities to introduce clients to other specialist services available across the wider business.
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Between two and five years’ relevant experience within construction Health & Safety, CDM or Principal Designer consultancy.
- Previous experience delivering Principal Designer duties under CDM 2015.
- Strong working knowledge of CDM 2015 and wider UK Health & Safety legislation.
- A NEBOSH Construction Certificate or an equivalent qualification.
- Membership of IOSH, the Association for Project Safety or another relevant professional body.
- Experience managing multiple construction projects and client relationships.
- Strong knowledge of the design and construction process.
- Excellent written communication and report-writing skills.
- The confidence to advise clients, designers and contractors on complex Health & Safety matters.
- A proactive, organised and commercially aware approach.
- Confidence using digital reporting systems, technology and modern working tools.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across London and the South East.
